On Thursday morning, an explosion ripped through a pyrolysis gasoline (pygas) tank, resulting in one confirmed fatality and multiple injuries.
The Incident:
Shortly before 11:00 am, emergency services responded to reports of a fire and explosion at the SCG Chemicals Plc (SCG) terminal, affiliated with the Siam Cement Group (SCG). The cause of the explosion involving the pygas tank is currently under investigation by SCG.
Impact and Response:
Sadly, one person lost their life in the incident. Four others sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. As a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated from the area. Operations at the terminal have been halted to ensure safety and allow for a full investigation.
Footage circulating online shows a large fire engulfing the tank, spewing thick black smoke into the air. The affected tank was part of a complex located within a commercial port and storage terminal in Map Ta Phut Port.
