Last month, a Qatar Airways Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' suddenly lost altitude shortly after takeoff, dropping below 1,000 feet while flying over the Persian Gulf. According to reports, the First Officer lost situational awareness while climbing and had to make a manual turn without flight director indications. The aircraft quickly descended at a maximum sink rate of 3,000 feet per minute, exceeding the Boeing 787's flap limits. An intervention by the Captain stopped the descent, and the aircraft landed safely. Qatar Airways has a strong safety record and is currently conducting an internal investigation.
